Dagupena Restaurant

In 1928, Ignacia Caliolio set-up a small eatery to augment the growing needs of her family. Because of her sincerity and commitment in the restaurant business, she was able to gain the patronage of Pangasinan's most prominent citizens. It was through Dagupena that she realized her dream of educating eight children. Unschooled as she was widowed at an early age, she was able to support her family, and hence received a National Mother of the Year award in 1974.

Bai Inacia was a very meticulous cook who wanted only the freshest ingredients of her sinigang a bangus, daing a bangus, inasin a pait (salted bangus innards), egado, pinakbet and other dishes. Today, Dagupena still serves the best sinigang, daing, inasin, egado, and pinakbet, just like Bai Inacia did in 1928. There are more dishes to choose from --- dishes that pay tribute to cultures that have enriched the heritage of our region.

We went to Dagupena to experience the good dishes that they serve and to feel its history.

The following are some of the dishes in their menu:

fried hito
grilled boneless bangus, sinigang na hipon, embutido, and pork adobo

Kuya Max Restogrill

Kuya Max Restogrill is a Dagupan based restaurant that serves local Filipino cuisine for the past 6 years up to present. According to the owner Maximo Alexis "Beep" Tan, the restaurant was originally named as Atsy's Grill in 2003 with four owners, then later on changed to Sipayb Resto where it was rented out to his cousin, and for the last time it was renamed as Kuya Max in 2007 where at present is operated and owned by him (Beep Tan).

Also, According to Maximo Alexis "Beep" Tan the restaurant was inspired by his love for food, most especially "HITO" where at that time was not yet available in Dagupan. You had to travel Binmaley (a neighboring town of Dagupan) in order for you to have HITO. As one of the satisfied customers, I can say that they really do serve good and real foods that are affordable plus the owner himself is very accommodating. Kuya Max Restogrill is located at De Venecia Road, Lucao District, Dagupan City.

Some of the dishes that they serve are:

Kilawing Bangus

Kare-kare

Pinakbet

Sisig

Beep Tan, being a graduate of culinary in Manila used his knowledge to be able to build the foundation of his restaurant. He even explores and tries food in other places to gain more ideas about food. And because of exploring and putting his heart on his business, it served as reasons why Kuya Max Restogrill is now one of the best restaurants in Dagupan.
